Starting in Bovec, this route takes you deep into the heart of the Julian Alps, following the emerald waters of the Soča River through the Trenta Valley. The road ascends gently at first, offering a chance to soak in the stunning alpine scenery. In the summer months, heavy traffic can sometimes slow progress, but alternative D-tours provide quieter, equally scenic options for those looking to avoid congestion.

As the road ascends, a fork appears leading to the source of the Soča—a short but steep detour for those interested in visiting one of Slovenia’s most iconic natural landmarks. Continuing on the main route, the climb gradually steepens, with a series of switchbacks carving their way up the mountainside. Each turn reveals an even more spectacular view, from towering peaks to the lush valley below.

The final kilometers to Vršič Pass (1,611 m) are a true test of endurance, with gradients reaching up to 12% in places. At the summit, cyclists are rewarded with panoramic vistas of the surrounding peaks and, often, a few curious mountain sheep roaming the pass.

The return journey follows the same route back to Bovec, but with gravity now on your side, the ride becomes smoother and faster. The initial descent is technical, requiring careful handling through the tight switchbacks. However, once past these winding sections, the road opens up, allowing for a more fluid and exhilarating ride back to Bovec, where you can fully enjoy the valley’s stunning scenery at speed.
