Want a real challenge? This climb, featured in the Giro d’Italia, delivers over 1000 meters of elevation gain in two demanding sections. The route starts in Kobarid and continues through Idrsko, where the climb begins—so make sure to warm up properly beforehand. The ascent is steep and relentless, averaging around 10% when excluding the short recovery section in the middle. After the first demanding section, you reach the village of Livek. Here, the road continues toward Italy, but you turn left to continue climbing toward Mount Kolovrat. At this point, you are roughly halfway to the top. At the summit, you’ll find a fascinating World War I open-air museum, along with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The descent toward Volče is steep, fast, and technical—ride carefully and control your speed. From there, the route continues on the main road to Tolmin, which includes a short section with traffic, so stay alert. From Tolmin, quieter back roads lead you back toward Kobarid, offering scenic views of the Julian Alps. On your left, you’ll see Mount Kolovrat—the very climb you conquered.
